How to read these figures

The Mental Health Foundation reports 21% of men experiencing poor mental health in the latest UK household-survey data. NHS England’s 17.3% figure uses a different measure: common mental health conditions assessed in the past week among males aged 16–64. These figures are not directly comparable. The ONS comparison is 17.6 male versus 5.7 female deaths registered per 100,000 people, using age-standardised rates for 2024 (17.6 ÷ 5.7 ≈ 3.1). Registration year is not necessarily the year a death occurred. These are population statistics, not a prediction of any individual’s experience.

Do I need to know what’s wrong?

No. You can start with what feels difficult, even if you do not know how to explain it. You do not need a diagnosis or a prepared story.

How does matching work?

Five questions filter the directory by meeting format, budget and counsellor preference. Results explain the overlap with your concern and preferred style. The tool is not an assessment or a guarantee of suitability.
